WHY YOU NEED TO USE A LICENSED WASTE CARRIER
By law, all businesses must be registered with the Environment
Agency if they carry, collect or dispose of household, commercial or
industrial waste.
Under the same laws, anyone who employs a private company to take
away their waste must make sure that the firm is registered to do
so. This law also applies to a householder who may be paying
a builder or tradesperson to do some work on their home such as
fitting a new kitchen or bathroom. Ignorance is no defence – if your
waste ends up in the wrong hands and is dumped then you could be
fined up to £5,000.
More than 126,000 incidents of fly-tipping were reported by local
authorities and the Environment Agency in the North East between
January 2006 and June 2007, which cost taxpayers over £8 million to
clear up. If they are not licensed they're fly tippers or illegally
disposing of your waste.
